Mission and Vision
Welcome to Daily TCM, dedicated to exploring the rich heritage of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with a modern, evidence-based lens. Our mission is to bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and contemporary science by debunking myths, clarifying misconceptions, and highlighting the proven benefits of TCM practices that can enhance the well-being for everyone, every day.
Although there is the word “traditional” here, but TCM practices are far from being outdated. In fact, many TCM principles can be easily infused into modern lifestyle habits for the ultimate purpose of making us happier beings. For example, TCM formulations and TCM texts are constantly being updated and reenvisioned into novel products.
Due to the word “medicine”, people often have ungrounded expectations about TCM. TCM is commonly benchmarked against Western medicine. This undermines the intentions and potential of Traditional Chinese Medicine. TCM’s primary objective is “curing non-disease”, in other words, preventing illness, rather than curing a disease. Yes, TCM also has some applications to cure diseases, but TCM physicians recognize the limits of the system and oftentimes refer patients to Western medicine. A core principle of TCM ethics is safety above all. Even in serious ailments, TCM is often used to complement and to amplify the effects of Western medicine, or to soften the hit of the side effects from Western medicine.
Because of the tendency to compare TCM system with the Western medicine, some people are unable to wrap their heads around concepts such as Yin and Yang, Qi and Meridians because many core TCM concepts are intangible. However, TCM is kind of like dark matter. We cannot see the elements, but the end results of the invisible forms interacting with each other engender visible effects on our bodies.
The Chinese has always valued apprenticeship as the main avenue to pass down knowledge, and due to language barriers, much of what we know about TCM are not fully and accurately presented in the Western world. Combined with a spurious set of assumptions and impalpable building blocks, the TCM world has accumulated a lot of myths and even mockery.
Here at Daily TCM, through rigorous research, expert insights, and thoughtful storytelling, we strive to dismantle stereotypes, clarify misconceptions, and highlight the practical applications of TCM that can benefit people of all backgrounds. Whether it’s acupuncture, herbal medicine, qi gong, or the philosophy of balance, we are committed to presenting TCM as a holistic, complementary approach to health that can coexist with modern medicine and enrich contemporary lifestyle.
